| The Burggrafenamt

The area, where the Passeirtal Valley and the Vischgau Valley flow into the Etschtal Valley, is called “Burggrafenamt”. Surrounded by the rugged mountains with heights of more than three thousand meters, here a broad bottom is opening itself toward south. That’s the reason why the area of Meran is supplied the whole year around with warm airstreams. The mild climatic conditions give the region southern flair and an unmistakable Mediterranean touch.

In the heart of the Burggrafenamt you find the spa-city Meran, which attracts attention with its romantic promenades, vineyards, parks and gardens. The particular climate allows flourishing extremely varied vegetation, which is really unique.

At the evening you can relax in the new Thermal Baths of Meran. The health resort Meran, with its neighbouring places Dorf Tirol, Algund and Schenna build the core of the Burggrafenamt. At the same time they are the cultural and historical centre of the German-speaking South Tyrol.

The Burggrafenamt owns a lot of historical highlights. The Castle Schloss Tirol in the village of Dorf Tirol gave its name to the whole Tyrol area and Meran for centuries was the capital of Tyrol. The Burggrafenamt with its numerous castles and other historical leftovers lets its meaningful history beyond question.
