Dorf Tirol in the holiday region Meran and surroundings in South Tyrol

| Tyrol's place of birth

Dorf Tirol (Italian name: Tirolo) is a little village above Meran which fascinates first of all through its wonderful geographic position and its moved history.
It was the Schloss Tirol Castle, situated on Dorf Tirol’s territory, which gave its name to the whole Land of Tyrol. On Schloss Tirol Castle the Counts of Tyrol resided for long times and probably already they were impressed by the magnificent panorama there. Looking down in the valley you see the entire basin of Meran and – on clear days – you get a profound view southwards into the Etschtal Valley. To find such a day at Dorf Tirol shouldn’t be a problem – with 300 days of sun a year the area is almost sun-blessed.

Located on the foot of the Texelgruppe - a mountain ridge whose summits reach easily 3000 metres and more – Dorf Tirol is supplied every day with pure and pleasant mountain air. Start your hike directly starting from the village. In a blink you have left all populated fields and you find yourself amidst an impressive natural ambient – for example hiking into the rustic Spronsertal Valley or by climbing the “Mut”(2294 metres, a summit directly above the village).

Historic significance, a lot of sun, the mild climate, the closeness to the city of Meran - these are only a few of facts, that this extraordinary location has to offer. Not for nothing Dorf Tirol is one of South Tyrol’s most loved and most famous destinations.
