The Ahrntal Valley is South Tyrol’s northernmost part and it’s located in the eastern half. It lives up his name as a high alpine valley. With 63 mountain peaks which are higher than three thousand meters the valley’s nature is very particular. If you are cosy hiker or a proficient alpinist – the Ahrntal Valley offers a huge assortment of different destinations.

| Impressive castles and thick woods

The slopes of the valley are covered by thick woods. On strategically well set points you find castles or at least their ruins. Here one of the largest and most beautiful castles of Tyrol towers out of the forest – The Castle Schloss Taufers. Therein are located Romance and Gothic frescos in best conditions. The imposing impression of this mediaeval fortification is merely beaten by the impression of the gigantic summits of the Alpine Main Ridge in the background.
